Simply go to your WP admin dashboard-> Settings-> Permalinks available within the menu. Here, you'll find a variety of choices available for setting a new URL structure. However, I recommend using wither the Day and Name option or the Post Name option. Here is a screen-shot for the same:

Disable the 'Post Revisions' feature
By default, WordPress preserves backup copies of each post that is either saved as draft or published over the blog/site. These backup copies are called Post Revisions and tend to consume a lot of space within WordPress wp-posts table saved in the database. Therefore, it is better to deactivate/disable this post revisions feature for your blog/site in order to improve the overall speed and performance of database queries. For doing the same, you simply need to add the below line of code in your theme's wp-config.php file:

4th Thing -
Delete the default WP Admin Account
On installing WordPress in your blog/site, by default WordPress would create 'Admin' as the username for your blog. Thus, a hacker can easily guess your username and make attempts to crack your password, thereby gaining an easy entry into your blog's admin panel. To avoid all this, you must ensure to create a new user(with a different username) and assign Administrator rights to this user. Also, don't forget to delete your default Admin account.

Uninstall all the unused plugins and themes
A lot of bloggers are into the habit of trying out different themes, post a WordPress installation.
