How to setup a custom Domain and Sub-domain with your Blogger Blog
Step-1. Adding the custom domain to your blogger blog
Go to your BlogSpot blog’s basic settings page, Dashboard > Settings > Basic
1. Click on Add a custom domain > Switch to advanced settings
3. Enter your domain (e.g. www.example.com) in the box under Advanced settings
4. Click on Save
Don’t worry about the massage “We have not been able to verify your authority to this domain. Error 5” - We gonna fix out it.
5. Look just below to the error massage; you will see some necessary code provided by Google. Copy and Save the marked code snippets as shown in the screenshot below. It will be required on the next.
Note: This code provided by Google is to verify your Domain Authority. You have to create two CNAME record on your domain’s DNS settings with these code. One cName code is for hosting and the long one is for verifying authority.
Step-2: Create CNAME Record on godaddy.com for Custom Domain
1. Log in to your Godaddy account.
2. Open All product tab and from Domain sub-tab select Domain Management. It will reach you to the Domain Manager page.
3. Click on your desire domain name. A new page of domain managing will come.
4. Click on the "DNS Zone File" tab.
5. Click on the Edit button.
6. We need to delete some of the existing records that GoDaddy adds by default. Select all the "A" records with "@" as host as well as the CNAME record "www" (if the URL you want to use starts with www) and press the Delete button.
7. Press the "Save Zone File" button.
8. Press Ok to confirm.
9. Press Ok to confirm again. :)
10. Now it's time to add A(Host) record. Go to A(Host) field and add some IP address used by Blogger in the manner i have added in my domain DNS zone file and keep default A record that is available by default in your zone file.
11. Click Quick Add button and add @ in Host filed and IP address in Points to Filed and keep TTL 1 Hour.
Add 4 A record as follows.
216.239.32.21
216.239.34.21
216.239.36.21
216.239.38.21
12. Now Go to CNAME(Alias) field and add codes generated by Blogger in first step. See my zone file and the record in the way in my zone file.
After all click on Save DNS Zone button to save your settings.
13. Go back to the Blogger settings window we kept open in Step 1 and click "Save" again.
14. If like me the GoDaddy DNS server processed the changes really quickly, it should all work fine and the settings should be accepted. You should be back to the main settings with your new custom domain accepted as the blog Address. So click on "Edit".
If Step 14 fails, be patient and retry later. It can take up to 48h for DNS settings to propagate.
15. Enable the "Redirect ..." checkbox and press Save. This is to allow "naked domain" redirect i.e. when users type your domain name without the www at the beginning.
16. Finally click the "View blog" button at the top of Blogger UI, it should all work fine and your blog should now be enabled with a custom domain.
